BIO

Sophea (សោភា) is a second-generation Cambodian American and self-taught mixed media artist based in Minneapolis, MN. Primarily a photographer of several years, she transitioned more fully to mixed medias, including painting, in the last few years. In her art, she explores themes of identity, including her Cambodian American heritage and the feminine. Lately, she has also been inspired by her natural surroundings, particularly in her paintings, seeing nature as the common thread of inspiration for ancient and modern art, between modern science and mysticism

Outside of this, she is the primary parent of a mischievous teen and equally mischievous cat. In her free time, she also enjoys biking and climbing, and the outdoors as much as getting together with friends in the city.

*Special Note about My Name* The anglicized and legal spelling is So-phear but the pronunciation is closer to So-pea. I drop the "r" because the anglicized spelling is nothing close to my name "ph" is often pronounced as an "f" so I just let that be rather then correctng all the time.
